Fifth grade welcome letter to parents

Dear 5th Grade Parents:

Welcome to a new school year! I am looking forward to working with you and your child! As a fifth grader your child will be taking on more responsibility. In order for us to have a successful year, I believe it is essential that we communicate. So, please feel free to come by, call or email anytime you have questions or concerns. You may reach me during the school day at 663-2293. I encourage you to get involved in your child’s education.

Our fifth grade classrooms are pleased to be involved in the eMINTS program. The eMINTS (enhancing Missouri 's Instructional Networked Teaching Strategies) program allows us to use multimedia tools to better understand the world, work together and achieve at new and higher levels.

The remainder of this letter contains important information that will help you, your child, and myself maintain success throughout the year.

Lunch money is collected every morning. If you feel that you may be eligible for free or reduced lunches please fill out the necessary forms and return them to the front office.

Throughout the school year I will send book orders home. A due date will be stamped on the order form. Please make your checks payable to the book company.

We will have three celebrations this year which are Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine’s Day. Pre-packaged treats may also be sent on your child’s birthday. This is not required but is acceptable. Room mothers will be in contact.

Grades are assigned for classroom work, homework, projects, and tests. Homework should be neat, completed on time and of satisfactory effort. I expect fifth graders to be responsible for their work! Late assignments will be accepted one day late only and for half credit. Assignment sheets will be filled out and brought home daily by your child. I will initial if the given assignment is completed and turned in. It is the student’s responsibility to bring the sheet home, get it signed by an adult, and return it to school the next day.

We will be switching classes in fifth grade. I will be teaching reading, grammar, writing and social studies. Ms. Clark will be teaching math, science, spelling and doing a project on the books 39 Clues. We will be working very closely together and monitoring your child’s performance as a team. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me or Ms. Clark.
